Adverts in the media

Save animals charity advert

This print based advert highlights the mistreatment of animals. It uses the shock factor and tries to scare viewers. It is upsetting and the black colour in the back ground brings a big sense of negativity to the picture. The image of the animal is very large and noticeably larger than the text. This could be to highlight how big of an issue it is. The target audience for this advert are people who care about social issues and more specifically, animals. The font and colours of the text are small to put bigger emphasis on the animal and white to highlight the importance in the words as they are in front of black.

Negative smoking print ad

This print-based advert shows the negative effects of smoking and how it can be a disaster for your health. The background is plain black which really puts the emphasis on the cigarette and the text underneath it. The phrase 'Loading cancer' would shock some people, but that is good because it is the harsh truth of what happens when you smoke. Once again, the colours are very dark to show the fact that it is negative. The simplicity of the advert makes the image dramatic and it makes it clear that it is very important and should be focused on. The advert is obviously aimed at smokers and it attempts to persuade them to give up smoking in fear of their own lives.

Jones Vs Cormier 2-UFC fight promo moving image ad

This moving image advert is a promotional video for a fight in the MMA company, UFC. It features a lot of different camera shots, most importantly, close ups to show the drama of the fight. It makes the buyer excited for the fight by using music which matches the story of the fight in the background. The music also links to the depressing background of Jon Jones which a lot of his fans are engaged in. The colours are generally pretty dark again because it suits the story of the fighters in the fight. The company is clearly aiming at adults and MMA fans here. Going beyond their usual promos, this one is aiming at a wider base because of the popular music and the story-type feel of the context of the trailer.

The Bridge season 1, 2 and 3 analysis (s3 ep1)

In season 1 and 2 of The Bridge, there is a lot of character building and it sets the tone for the rest of the series. Many conventions that are in ep1 of season 1 remain the same in season 3. For example, one of the most noticeable things straight away is the eeriness of the music. This also compliments the dark lighting that is essentially used throughout the whole show. It makes the show feel very dark. For example, in season 3 episode 1, there is a scene where the lighting in the flaming is all dark, but in the corner of the screen there is blue from a police car bleeding into the frame. The main character of the show, Saga, is a female detective who is very straight to the point. It is suggested that she has autism, though not explicitly mentioned.  In season 1, this is contrasted with the Danish male detective who seems to have more empathy and social skills.  In season 3, Saga is contrasted with the female Danish detective who seems to be more confident with dealing wit...

Music video statement of aims and intentions

Aims and Intentions I aim to create a music video using my own instrumental track with guitar and potentially a rhythm instrument too. I also plan on using a grunge or Japanese metal track for the vocals in my song from a freelance website or Soundcloud (if i choose to add vocals after the final track is made). The audio in my music video will be very well thought of and will match the visuals on the screen. I will accomplish this by adding mis-en-scene that matches the lyrics and edit it to the cuts in the music. I will take inspiration from existing grunge music videos such as Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box and a few Steel Panther videos. This inspires me because it is unorthodox and different to typical corporate music videos released in this century, which just include basic narratives and people with as much clothes off as YouTube allows. I plan on using one or two people in my video as characters in a short narrative plot. I will use Jacob and Ben. My plot will be depres...

How far does Captain Fantastic demonstrate a constant shift between passive and active spectatorship?

>an understanding of spectatorship in terms of the level and type of engagement a film elicits in the spectator including, for example, concepts such as identification, alignment and allegiance > how key features of the film, such as camera position, editing, sound, performance or aspects of narrative and genre can create passive and active responses > some recognition of the role of viewing context and spectators' social and cultural background in influencing spectator response > a recognition that spectators are likely to shift between passive and active viewing.
