Analysis of film posters and trailers

This movie poster for Freddy v Jason is almost a typical horror movie trailer. Straight away, the dark colours of black and the smoke effect add a very chilling, dark theme to the poster. This lets us know that the film will be a horror movie as it is a genre indicator. Another genre indicator is the weapons on the poster as they add a threat. The slogan 'Even a killer has something to fear' is a promise of pleasure because it builds anticipation and hooks the audience in. It connects fans of two different cinematic universes to gain higher attention. There is no expert criticism on the poster. This is to make more room for the effect of the visuals on the poster. The costumes of the characters are very famous and recognisable. The font of the writing is something which is generally associated with the horror genre and is red which is a visual code relating to blood. The expression on Freddie's (the character on the left) face is obviously very threatening and aggressive. This tells the audience that they are not in for a rom-com or even a Michael Bay type film, it will be a horror with a lot of violence and anger. All of the elements of this poster have a great effect on getting the audience hooked on wanting to go and see the movie.

The trailer for the 2017 movie, Good Time is great at hooking the audience in. Specifically, it aims to hook the more hardcore type of film watchers in, including the indie lovers. This may come as a shock to the younger audience who were expecting to see another Twilight-type movie with Robert Pattinson the protagonist. The trailer is very dark and shows a lot of the urban life which shows us that it is not going to be a happy movie. This is also portrayed through the characters' (mainly Pattinson's) expressions and the costumes of all of the characters too. The music is a strange choice for this type of movie, although it is definitely not happy. I think the uniqueness of the music and the strangeness of it not being a typical movie trailer song relates to how the movie is so different and unique in itself. Good Time could be put into a few categories including drama, crime and thriller. The drama element is portrayed through the context of the trailer, which is that the protagonist character has to save his brother from prison. The crime and thriller aspects are portrayed through the highlights of criminal and dangerous activity that Pattinson is doing. These are visual codes and genre indicators.

The Bridge season 1, 2 and 3 analysis (s3 ep1)

In season 1 and 2 of The Bridge, there is a lot of character building and it sets the tone for the rest of the series. Many conventions that are in ep1 of season 1 remain the same in season 3. For example, one of the most noticeable things straight away is the eeriness of the music. This also compliments the dark lighting that is essentially used throughout the whole show. It makes the show feel very dark. For example, in season 3 episode 1, there is a scene where the lighting in the flaming is all dark, but in the corner of the screen there is blue from a police car bleeding into the frame. The main character of the show, Saga, is a female detective who is very straight to the point. It is suggested that she has autism, though not explicitly mentioned.  In season 1, this is contrasted with the Danish male detective who seems to have more empathy and social skills.  In season 3, Saga is contrasted with the female Danish detective who seems to be more confident with dealing wit...

Music video statement of aims and intentions

Aims and Intentions I aim to create a music video using my own instrumental track with guitar and potentially a rhythm instrument too. I also plan on using a grunge or Japanese metal track for the vocals in my song from a freelance website or Soundcloud (if i choose to add vocals after the final track is made). The audio in my music video will be very well thought of and will match the visuals on the screen. I will accomplish this by adding mis-en-scene that matches the lyrics and edit it to the cuts in the music. I will take inspiration from existing grunge music videos such as Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box and a few Steel Panther videos. This inspires me because it is unorthodox and different to typical corporate music videos released in this century, which just include basic narratives and people with as much clothes off as YouTube allows. I plan on using one or two people in my video as characters in a short narrative plot. I will use Jacob and Ben. My plot will be depres...

How far does Captain Fantastic demonstrate a constant shift between passive and active spectatorship?

>an understanding of spectatorship in terms of the level and type of engagement a film elicits in the spectator including, for example, concepts such as identification, alignment and allegiance > how key features of the film, such as camera position, editing, sound, performance or aspects of narrative and genre can create passive and active responses > some recognition of the role of viewing context and spectators' social and cultural background in influencing spectator response > a recognition that spectators are likely to shift between passive and active viewing.
