Imagine Dragons Music Video write up

Imagine Dragons are a popular American Indie-Rock band who have excelled greatly since 2011. They consist of four members including 30 year old, Dan Reynolds, who is the main vocalist. The band won record of the year in 2014 for their single, Radioactive. Since then, their success has continued and they have 25 million singles in 2017.

One of the band's main music videos is for their song 'On Top of the World'. It uses both narrative and thematic settings throughout the video. It is made satirical by exploiting American conspiracy theories. There is a large scene in the video in which it shows the moon landing to be fake in a comedic style. The video also shows diversity and a togetherness of the community by using different social classes and different cultures as the astronauts who 'go to space'. However, it is a little bit contradictory as all of them are white males. However, in terms of culture, there are clear binary opposites amongst the star vehicles.



Another of the band's most popular videos is for their song 'It's time'. It is a dark and gloomy video which is surprisingly very different to the previous video mentioned. It uses the juxta position between the visuals and the audio which is a strange combination. It is a thematic music video which is supposed to have emphasis on the quality of the visuals and camerawork. There are a wide range of shot types in the video, featuring close ups, wide shots, and mediums.



Lastly, the video for 'Thunder' is a work of art. It arguably shows the abstractness in urban life throughout the video as a giant metaphor portrayed partially by the alien-type characters. It arguably copied Lady Gaga's type of strange video but yet seems so original. It is a thematic video but there are scenes which are very performance-based. The group is pictured together a number of times and there is a large emphasis on the city which once again, relates to the urban life.

Representation Print based media has a great influence on people’s opinions and views of the different aspects of our society. These girls were undoubtedly beautiful, which then caused younger girls and even easily influenced women to want to ‘be like them’ in a sense. In this advert, there are many techniques used to make the the advert more effective. For example, it opens with a mid-shot of the child and there is screaming in the background. There is non-digetic music in the background which makes the mood seem depressing. It is also very informing as the information for the charity is on the screen at the end in a clear form.
