Stereotypes/hypodermic theory

This is a negative stereotype of mentally ill/disabled people by the Sun. This presents people with mental health conditions as crazy and not a part of 'normal' society. The Sun, who are notoriously known for having no sympathy towards anything that might be different than a white 'common' male, show mental health as a problem and something that needs to be ridden of and not treated. This links to the hypodermic needle theory because a lot of people (especially older people and un-coincidentally people who would read the Sun) get bad impressions of people with mental health based on these stereotypes and therefore their own opinions and beliefs towards mentally ill people are very bad. However, not all media extracts surrounding mental health are negative. Some are quite challenging. For example, the Mirror (a left-wing newspaper) usually present mental health in a good light, as something which is being understood more and that is able to be helped now. This is a c

Football Manager analysis

The Football manager franchise is a popular series of games created by Sega and developed by Sports Interactive. It has been running for many years as a continuation of the Championship Manager series. The game is about being a manager and taking different clubs to glory whilst keeping it one of the most realistic games of all time. You can now make an avatar on the game which you don't really see often but it is a cool feature as you can use game face to create a virtual replica of your own face on the game. Football manager is set in a football match when you get to the action, but otherwise you are in a series of different database menus doing different business aspects of running a club. The goal of the game is to have success with the club you are managing and get a better contract as you develop. Some people may have personnel goals like avoiding relegation or winning the World Cup. The gameplay is a 2d or 3d match engine where you watch your team perform. You can change d

Daily mirror Trump post

This take on Trump's election from the Daily Mirror is delivered with a sense of great importance. We can tell this because it takes up the whole front cover (apart from a standalone at the top). This attracts the audience to buy this as they see that it is a very important piece of news. The image is very large and significantly larger than the text. This is to show the Mirror's left-wing opinion on the election of Donald Trump and how bad it is. On the other side (or wing), the Daily Mail present Trump's election a lot more positively with a photo of him looking victorious. Similarly, the article takes up the whole page and is delivered with a sense of importance. The word 'Trumpquake' is in bold letters across the front, to not only add a sense of humour to it considering the US just elected DONALD TRUMP as president, but to show the significance of how big he is to World politics.

More newspaper headlines and analysis

The headline for this issue of the Sun emphasises it's racist views on the Islamic people of the UK. It uses bold writing to make the story seem attractive to it's target audience. The stereotypes about this group of people show that they are right-wing. The newspaper is clearly a tabloid and this is identifiable by the large text and the big pictures. The newspaper is owned by a right-wing upper class man named Rupert Murdoch and this is where the opinions are formed. Similarly, this newspaper uses a racist headline to please it's target audience. There is also some other aspects of this tabloid that is worth noting too. For example, the strap line uses the fact that the man killed had a foreign accent. This will grab the attention of the wing target audience and it will also grab the attention of Polish people. The standalone also features reality TV which is commonly associated with working class people.  Right-wing is an ideology which values tradition and
