Nordic noir notes

The Bridge has been influenced by many things before that link to Nordic historical context. Stieg Larson popularised the crime fiction genre in Scandinavia with her release of the book 'The Girl with the Dragon tattoo'. The book has many similarities to The Bridge. Both feature an outsider female character who has little empathy but is very good at her job. Both also feature a co-detective from another background.

There are links to the fascist movement in the crime fiction genre in Sweden. Most of the books/shows have marxist or socialist opinions and this is present throughout the script.

Also, crime fictions often feature graphic scenes and realism a lot. For example, in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, there was a scene where the girl tattoos explicit language onto her rapist father whilst he is naked. One writer actuality said that she cares more about the effect it has on the watcher or reader than the plot.

Radio overview

Different radio stations suit different audiences. For example, Kerrang is aimed at both young teens who like punk music, and people who listened to that in their teen days. Some radio shows have strips which are essentially specific time slots for certain shows, so people know when they are on. BBC Radio 1 BBC Radio 1 is aimed at younger people. Imagine Dragons Music Video write up

Imagine Dragons are a popular American Indie-Rock band who have excelled greatly since 2011. They consist of four members including 30 year old, Dan Reynolds, who is the main vocalist. The band won record of the year in 2014 for their single, Radioactive. Since then, their success has continued and they have 25 million singles in 2017. One of the band's main music videos is for their song 'On Top of the World'. It uses both narrative and thematic settings throughout the video. It is made satirical by exploiting American conspiracy theories. There is a large scene in the video in which it shows the moon landing to be fake in a comedic style. The video also shows diversity and a togetherness of the community by using different social classes and different cultures as the astronauts who 'go to space'. However, it is a little bit contradictory as all of them are white males. However, in terms of culture, there are clear binary opposites amongst the star vehicles. ...

Media Task 3 questions (Fay)

a) Five slogans for recently advertised media products are: 'Simples' (Compare the market/meerkat) 'Finger lickin' good' (KFC) 'The world's local bank' (HSBC) 'The totally tropical taste' (Lilt) 'There is no substitute' (Porsche) b) Some advertisers have used shock advertising recently. An example of this is The Women's aid act in which a print media poster showed a woman who was the subject of domestic abuse. They used these tactics to employ a wake up call that things like this still happen and it needs to stop. c) An example of an advert that justifies Maslows's hierarchy of needs is Dasani's advert which has the slogan 'Can't live without it'. This is essentially telling people that they need this product if they are to survive. People naturally need water to survive and this advert is using people's instincts to their advantage. d) There are many stereotypes in c...
